A coastal journey through the wilderness of Ireland. Embrace your sense of adventure with your beloved and engage in all this experience has to offer.
A little on the Wild Side!
I know this is a bit idyllically picturesque, as I managed to captured one of the few days of sunshine this country gladly accepts with a Coke float and 50 spf suncream. But, just look at this. I promise you, this isn’t photoshopped. Who wouldn’t want to travel these shores with their significant other(s)?
This is where I’m from and I know I’m biased but it is a very romantic place. The food is top notch and the people are charming (not to be egocentric or anything). The Wild Atlantic Way is a coastal drive meandering down the west coast of Ireland, beginning in Donegal and ending in Cork. This is the world’s longest coastal drive and there’s no shortage of scenery. It’s almost barbaric in its beauty especially on the more frequent blustery nights. This is where one would go for a transition from quotidienne life and just go somewhere real. This coast has something much more memorable to offer than a sun holiday. Think unique memories, both traditional and modern. This Irish coastline allows you to connect with people, both new and your cherished beloved(s), connect with nature and culture and ancient history, with castles, monasteries and fairy rings scattered throughout the journey.
Tradition, as I have mentioned before, has survived here somehow. You’ll pass through three Gaeltachts on this coastal drives. These are areas of the country where the ancient Irish language have been preserved. The inhabitants are bilingual, so there’s no language barrier, but if you want you can pick up a phrase or two. I grew up with storytelling around the fire, community dances and music sessions in the local pub. It sounds awfully nostalgic, but this idealist memory was real. And it still is. And you can have it too.

“Islands of Saints and Scholars” - Inishmaan, one of the Aran Islands, it’s the middle island often skipped over by tourists but give the most authentic experience of Irish Cultural Traditions.
There’s more than just scenery and culture to keep you occupied but if it’s an action-packed holiday looking for, then it’s an ideal location. The Irish Atlantic coastline is claimed to be one of the greatest places to surf in the world. In fact, if you’re willing to overcome the first few moments of shock in these cold waters, the water activities along this drive are incredible. Wind-surfing, sub aqua diving, kayaking and wakeboarding are a few high adrenaline boosters to be experienced.
Fáilte Ireland, the country’s tourism board, created a short film on what this trip has to offer and it really captures the beauty of this area without being overly polished.
Anyway, I’ve sentimentally babbled on long enough, but if you’re thinking of travelling, I would recommend looking into this sanctuary from the hum drum of life. If you have any questions, or advice on where to eat or what to do, please leave comments.
